For Expo Dubai 2020, we contributed to the creation of the Sustainability Pavilion by producing 18 futuristic and elegantly integrated solar trees, each equipped with photovoltaic panels.
We designed and developed an advanced rotation system for the canopy, allowing the curved structure to track the sun's position and maximize the photovoltaic system's efficiency. The solution ensures optimal energy performance and full functionality even in the event of a motor failure. The base bearing, driven by two gearmotors with a 1/10824 reduction ratio, acts as the structural connection between the steel trunk and the reinforced fiberglass branches.
The entire movement is managed by a solar-tracking software developed in-house together with the rotation mechanics, engineered to maintain continuous tracking even if one motor fails, thanks to a dedicated bypass system.
